Another elderly victim has fallen victim to a con that’s making the rounds on the phone.

A 79-year-old man told Boston police that he was scammed out of $13,500.

He is the second victim of the increasingly frequent “Grandparent” scam — which plays on a grandparent’s emotional desire to help a grandchild in need — reported in the Herald this week.

This scam displayed all the hallmarks and hit the same notes as earlier reports: The victim told police that a person claiming to be his grandchild called and told him he was in a serious accident in which a woman was seriously injured.

Another person claiming to be a public defender then got on the line and told the fraud victim that bail was set at $13,500 and he would send over a bondsman to pick up the money, according to a Boston Police statement.

The victim said he would be around the hospital in the Longwood area and he later met an “unknown black male” driving a white Nissan sedan and handed him the money.

Police ask that anyone with any information call detectives at (617) 343-4275.

Here are some steps to take: Ask the caller to describe the grandchild or loved one and where they are located. Ask for time to call the loved one to independently check. Write down the phone number and call police if you’re being scammed.
