北 암호화폐 탈취 대응 한미 공동 민관 심포지엄 “국제 사회가 대응 위해 공조해야”
Government officials and experts from South Korea and the U.S. are in Seoul to investigate North Korea’s sustained cryptocurrency-related crimes and to lay out countermeasures to tackle it.
Speaking at a symposium Thursday, South Korea’s Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, Kim Gunn, said it’s time for the international community to cooperate and tackle the regime’s indiscriminate cyberattacks.
The U.S. Deputy Special Representative for North Korea, Jung Park, said funds secured through the theft of crypto allow the regime to develop its prohibited weapons development programs.
According to reports, hackers affiliated to North Korea stole around a billion U.S. dollars worth of cryptocurrency between January and July this year.
