Construction mogul Charles Polidano, more commonly known as Iċ-Ċaqnu, and his son Gordon, are facing another round of police interrogation over suspected money laundering and corruption.

According to the Times of Malta, the construction magnate was interrogated together with his son on Thursday, and are scheduled to face a further questioning on Friday at the Police Financial Crime Investigation Department (FCID).

Earlier this month, Charles and his son Gordon were both arrested and interrogated by the FCID over the same suspicions, before being released on bail.

The Times of Malta reported that the 62-year-old construction magnate is being investigated over a lucrative contract he won in 2014 to carry out works at the Freeport, for which the company may have overpaid.  Suspicions arose over a property that was transferred from Polidano to Freeport chief executive Alex Montebello for what they believe is a suspiciously low price.

Montebello, currently the CEO of Malta Freeport Terminals, was the chief financial officer at the time of the property transfer. It appears that Montebello has not been reporting for work at the freeport pending the investigation.

Both Montebello and Polidano have denied any wrongdoing.

Malta Freeport Terminals Ltd is a private company that runs the transshipment operation at Malta Freeport. It is separate from the Malta Freeport Corporation that is owned by the Malta government and is the authority that regulates the freeport.
