NPA says corruption at municipal level overwhelming: Noluthando Phungula


National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Shamila Batohi says while the NPA is doing everything to fight corruption at the municipal level, malfeasance at local government is overwhelming. She was responding to parliamentary questions about the slow pace of the institution in tackling corruption and delivering evident results on the NPA’s work. According to CoGTA, local government in South Africa entered a new era with the adoption of the 1996 Constitution to advance local development. On the contrary, rampant corruption and the state of dysfunction in municipalities have been hogging academic and informal discussions in the past few decades.
